I guess my real question is one of writer responsibility, censorship, and social norms. Is Stephanie Meyer to be held responsible for the disturbing sexual undertones in a book written for young audiences? Or can she write whatever she wants? (Was she even aware of the implications of the story she created? That’s the only jibe I’ll take at her.) As a society, or a publishing house, or a production studio, are we charged to monitor what reaches the eyes, ears, and psyches of our youth? Or is that censorship? Who has the right to determine what is “disturbing” or “unhealthy” for young girls? Basically, where do we draw the line, and who draws it? I think the Twilight “phenomenon” has unearthed some interesting realities of the way we think about sex, entertainment, romance, and the feminine. But what do we do now?

THIS. Thank you for finally putting into words what I have been thinking since I saw Breaking Dawn. I got swept away with the books too (though I think I was 15ish) and I think the movies really exposed the story for what it really was (messed up)
