Humanity.

I would like to think that perhaps this country, wherein I reside, is stuck in a bit of a quagmire. One should stop reading now if one thinks I am incorrect, by all means. There are two camps (who brutally force everyone else to submit to their whim) in this land of fifty states (but mostly one big stick) and they play with each other on a regular basis. Actually, they also have a friend who gets in on the play, but we’ll talk about him later. The camp counselors were elected by people who live here, too, in order to keep this land successful. Lately, however, they seem distracted. Perhaps its because they like the position in which they have found themselves and now they don’t want to leave. Regardless, they have been telling us for about thirty years now that things are bad. Things could get worse, but they’re going to fight to clean this land up and help people.

How do they help people? Well, one way is by a thing the counselors call social welfare. Now, this welfare idea sounds wonderful and, ideally, it is. Let me explain. Some people in this land are too poor and too tired to eat. They would get a job (which is a chore done to get other goods, like food) to alleviate their hunger and their poverty, but every time they go to apply for a job, they get turned down. These people live, for the most part, in big cities around the land. In big cities, you have to look clean and fit in order to get a job. These poor, hungry, tired people don’t really look clean; they don’t have houses, so they don’t bathe often. They also look run down, because they are. They’re tired from trying to sleep outside and trying to find food. So they never get jobs and they become hungrier and poorer until they die. Then they are no longer poor, nor are they hungry.

Some counselors here (we’ll call them the Ds) think that the way to get these poor, tired, hungry people into jobs is to give them money (money is a collection of silly paper rectangles and shiny, metal pieces which can be used to buy food or a bed or a home) so they can bathe, and eat, and sleep in some sort of abode. And this seems to make some sense: once the people get jobs, they no longer need the help of this kind of social welfare. The giving of money doesn’t have to go on forever. The Ds want to take money from other people who are satiated and well-rested in order to help the poor people. And this also makes some sense. After all, most of us want the other people who live in this land to be happy.

Some counselors (these ones we call Rs) think that the way to get the tired, hungry, poor people into jobs is to let others help them. The others, the Rs explain, are wealthy people who have more money than they know what to do with. The wealthy people are also good, hard working people who want to help their fellows in this land. So the Rs argue that the wealthy people will help out the poor people, by giving them food and a place to sleep and jobs and everyone will be happy. This is a good, simple idea. This makes a lot of sense, as well. After all, most of us want the other people who live in this land to be happy.

But there is a problem with both the Ds’ ideas and the Rs’ ideas. Some poor people take advantage of the Ds’ social welfare programs and some wealthy people don’t agree with the Rs. So some poor people are irascible and take advantage of the Ds’ money-giving. And, contrary to what the Rs say, some wealthy people are irascible and don’t give any money to help poor people. So some poor people stay poor together and some wealthy people stay wealthy alone.

Some poor people work very hard. They find jobs which pay them very little money and they live modestly. And some wealthy people work very hard. They give other people jobs and give money to poor people who really need it and they live modestly.

So the problem, as it seems to me, is that some people are just irascible, no matter whether they are poor or wealthy. These people always take advantage of other people.

And, so it seems to me as well, that our camp counselors in this land are part of the latter group. This is because they are best friends with one another. It may seem fairly odd, given that the Rs and the Ds have different ideas, but its not. This is because of their mutual friend. Their friend is money. Their friend isn’t even human. But both the Ds and the Rs love [him] [her] their mutual best friend money. Our camp counselors, who we voted for thirty years ago and, most oddly enough, continue to vote for, like money more than they like people. So money now gets to decide who gets some more money and who doesn’t get some more money. Money controls who gets put in print, on screen, and money could get to decide who gets on the internet. Money always puts money first. Money is the friend who takes advantage of everyone. People (except irascible people) do not like money. But we all have to put up with money, because its a means to an end. We have to trade money for food and beds and houses. No one in this land should like money, but some begin to worship money, like a deity. Deities are another thing I could write about, but I don’t have the time to write about them. I have complained enough already.

My point in writing this, is that I think we should get rid of the Rs and the Ds. These camp counselors are silly, and they no longer want to help people. They tell us they believe in social welfare because they want more time with money. I think we should help the poor people. I type this because I like my fellow human beings. I like humanity. I think we should continue giving money to our poor fellows and giving to social welfare programs in order to give to our poor fellows. I think there are problems, like I explained earlier. I think that there are also solutions. I just don’t think that the Ds or the Rs agree. We should vote for someone else who agrees with solutions and disagrees with money.

That’s my advice. Try to be human and try to help your fellow humans. Above all else, be human.
